Shannon facility to shut this year

Desription
AER Lingus is planning to close its aircraft maintenance facility in Shannon by the end of the year.

The Shannon operation, which employs about 70 people, will become surplus to requirements after the airline secured a lease on the controversial Hangar 6 in Dublin.

An airline spokesman denied yesterday that any decision had been made and said no announcement would be made for about eight weeks.

But well-placed sources have confirmed the plan to cease activity there in coming months.
